Bachelor of Laws graduate, Mr Njabulo Ntombela who brought the UKZN Law 2019 Autumn Graduation ceremony to a standstill when he honoured his great-grandmother, Ms Nomkikilizo Ntombela by leading her onto the Graduation stage where she was ceremoniously capped and hooded, has been admitted as Attorney of the High Court.
His great-grandmother (92) also joined him on this day in his graduation regalia.
Ntombela said his great-grandmother has always been his pillar of strength, there to encourage him even though she did not get the opportunity to obtain basic education. Given the sacrifices she has made for him and his family, it was only fitting to have her beside him as he celebrated another milestone in his life.
He added that his Gogo always supported him although it took him longer than expected to reach this point.
‘It took me 16 years instead of 12 to get my matric, five years to get my honours degree instead of four, three years to pass all my board exams instead of one, and nine years in total to be admitted as an Attorney of the High Court instead of six … but I MADE IT!’ he said.
‘This simply means that another step forward has been taken. There’s more to be done and learnt, and hopefully this is the beginning of something great,’ added Ntombela.
He is currently employed at Thula Mlondo Attorneys.
